Febri Diansyah No Longer KPK Spokesman as New Leaders Arrive

Jakarta. Febri Diansyah, a familiar face during announcements of high-profile graft cases uncovered by the Corruption Eradication Commission, or KPK, said on Thursday he would leave his job as spokesman of the agency after three years – coinciding with the arrival of its new leadership board last week.

However, Febri will remain with the anti-graft agency to lead its public relations bureau.

The KPK's new five-commissioner board led by policeman Comr. Gen. Firli Bahuri has announced they would seek a new spokesman to replace Febri.

"I've come to the end of my journey as KPK spokesman," Febri told reporters at the agency's headquarters in Jakarta on Thursday.

He said he had spoken with the new leaders of the KPK and been informed that they were looking for his replacement but had not found a suitable candidate.

Febri said he had occupied a double role as KPK spokesman and the head of its public relations bureau since December 2016.

An internal ruling issued last year stated the posts must be filled by separate individuals, but Febri had continued on as both until today.

KPK deputy chairman Nurul Ghufron said there were six vacant posts at the agency at the moment, including the spokesman post. He said the public relations bureau head should no longer do both jobs to avoid overwork.

Febri said he could now focus on his job as the KPK's public relations bureau head.

"I will continue interacting with the media, although in a different way," he said.
