Jakarta. Social media giant Facebook has appointed Peter Lydian Sutiono as country director for Indonesia, replacing Sri Widowati, who stepped down in March.

Peter will lead all Facebook's businesses in Indonesia, including providing input and support to help local and global brands, as well as various agencies to grow.

Benjamin Joe, vice president of Facebook for Southeast Asia, said in a statement on Monday that the region is where the social media giant and its affiliates, Instagram and WhatsApp, had seen the biggest and fastest growth.

"With his years of experience in the technology industry, we would like to affirm Facebook's commitment to support businesses and communities in Indonesia," Joe said, adding that the social media giant seeks to contribute more to the local economy.

According to the statement, Peter's role would be to push the development of business in Indonesia and internationally in several sectors, including e-commerce, financial services, technology and telecommunications.

"I am happy to join Facebook and cannot wait to collaborate with the teams to develop our investment, so we can further support and develop businesses and the community in Indonesia," Peter said in the statement.

Peter has more than 25 years' experience in various companies in Indonesia. Before joining Facebook, he served as president director of financial technology startup Finmas.

He previously also worked at various multinational companies in Indonesia, among them Microsoft and Dell.

"Facebook has a commitment to enable people using Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram to utilize the technology to benefit their lives, and also contribute to the future of Indonesia," Peter said.
